About us

Parents helping parents navigate the Canadian school system.

SpecialEducation.ca exists because too many Canadian parents are left to figure out IEPs, IPRC meetings, and school refusal alone. We've sat in your seat. We know the system. And we know how to help.

Why we exist

Most Canadian parents only learn about IEPs, identification, accommodations, and provincial frameworks the moment something goes wrong. Suddenly there are acronyms — IEP, IPRC, PPM, SEA, PRR, BSP — and meetings full of educators, and decisions about your child's future that feel completely out of your hands.

It shouldn't be this way. Canadian parents have real rights, and Canadian children have real protections. The system, when it works, can be powerful. Our job is to make sure it works for your child.

What we do

We provide one-on-one advocacy, document review, school meeting attendance, escalation support, and parent coaching for families navigating special education in Canada. We work with families dealing with autism, ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety and school refusal, behaviour concerns, suspensions, identification disputes, gifted and twice-exceptional profiles, and more.

We do not provide legal advice. We do provide deep, practical knowledge of the school system — and a calm presence at the table when you need one most.

Wendy — Lead Advocate

Wendy has spent over 20 years working alongside Canadian families to navigate special education. Her background combines education, parent advocacy, and lived experience of raising a child with complex learning needs. She is known for being warm with parents, professional with schools, and relentless about results.

Our approach

We're not adversarial. We don't go to war with schools. We come in calm, prepared, and rooted in policy — and we stay that way until your child has what they need. In our experience, that approach gets better outcomes than confrontation, every single time.
